Reshift by Abidan Shah, PhD

RESHIFT by Dr. Shah, Clearview Church, Henderson, NC

Introduction: Every few months, I take my truck in for servicing and getting the tires rotated or realigned. So also, every so often, I like to emphasize the importance of biblical values to the present and future of our nation. Daily we are bombarded by secular voices that contradict the truth of God’s Word, especially as it applies to our nation. Regularly, we need a “Reshift,” and that’s the title of our message. Main point: God has blessed us with a nation that was founded on Judeo-Christian values. As long as we remain “One Nation Under God” and “In God We Trust,” we guarantee the future happiness of our children and our grandchildren. Along with having a significant influence on the government, we should relentlessly share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 29:2 “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wickedman rules, the people groan.”

Context: In the Book of Proverbs, “righteous” are those who put God first and seek to walk in his way. The “wicked” are those who reject God and walk without integrity. This verse is very applicable today in America. People are groaning and have been for quite some time. The only hope is to return to biblical values. There are 6 wrong views regarding the relationship between Government and Christianity (based on Grudem’s “Politics According to the Bible”):

1. Government should mandate Christianity.

2. Government should control religion.

3. Government and Christianity should not mix at all.

4. Government is evil, and Christians should have no part in it.

5. Christians should only focus on reaching the lost.

6. Christianity should only focus on Government.

Here is the balanced view – Christians should have a significant influence on the Government.

Matthew 28       18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Invitation: Are you praying for our nation? Are you making a significant influence on government with biblical values? Are you saved? Are you sharing the gospel with the lost?
