This weekend, we will take a second look at the parable of the unforgiving servant. This time, we will be looking at the parable through the lens of extending forgiveness to other people. Offering forgiveness after we have been wronged is often difficult to do, but when we understand what we have been forgiven by God, it becomes the obvious choice. The title of this weekend’s message is “DEBT: PART TWO.”
In this final message, we take a look at Paul’s warning against falling back into a sinful pattern simply because he is absent. He tells the Philippians to stand firm and not turn away from the things that they have learned or the work that God had begun in them. The title of this weekend’s message is “BACKSLIDING MIND.”
This weekend, we are focused on the kingdom of God. Many times, we think of God’s kingdom as a future reality, something that has yet to come. However, when Jesus came, he inaugurated the kingdom of God here on earth. Through His teaching and His life, He taught His disciples how to live a life fitting of God’s kingdom. They are deceiving. They only give a partial, wishful, and concocted glimpse of life. Today we are in part 3 of our series on worry and anxiety from the Sermon on the Mount called “PUTTING ANXIETY TO WORK” and today’s message is titled – “PURE MOTIVES, CLEAR LIFE.” Matthew 6 22 “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
In this message we will understand three basic things – Anger that lashes out, Anger that looks back, and Anger that lingers on. All this is coming straight out of the text in Matthew 5:21-30. The previous three messages were laying out the foundation for the series. This one is application all the way.
Last weekend we learned how to have anger “with a cause.” This weekend we will see what anger “without a cause” looks like. So many of us are guilty of being upset and mad about things that do not matter. We end up destroying relationships, embarrassing ourselves, and disgracing our Savior.
We live in a world that is defiled by sin and evil. It clouds our vision of God. Every time we try to visualize God, some impurity of life gets in the way. It requires a solid commitment to repent from sin and submit to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Then and only then will we see the hand of God all around us. As Hebrews 12:14 also reminds us, “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.”
In this message we will seek to answer three important questions: 1. Who are the pure in heart? 2. What does it mean to see God? & 3. How does this blessing work?
According to popular research, this year’s resolutions were no different than the years before – “Get More Sleep,” “Save Money,” “Quit Smoking or Drinking,” and, top of the list as always, “Loose Weight.” Oh yes – there was also “Flossing!” I guess nobody wants a “Bridge Over Troubled Molars!” But sadly, most people’s resolutions go in one year and out the next. Why is that? It’s because of a three-letter word that has all but disappeared from American Christianity. It only brings up images of Bible thumping preachers in tent revivals. It conjures up feelings of guilt and condemnation. I’m talking about the word “Sin.” Now before you throw down this paper, I urge you to suspend your judgment briefly and keep reading. This may hold the secret to the best year of your life! Here’s why –
