The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are three in one, perfect unity in the Godhead — and yet each has very different roles. In this episode, we wrap up our conversation on the Trinity by looking at two important distinctions: the economic Trinity, how the Father, Son, and Spirit act differently as they relate to creation and redemption, and the immanent Trinity, who each person simply is, eternally, apart from us.
We also dig into one of the most surprising ideas in the whole series: that the family unit isn’t just a nice metaphor for the Trinity, it’s modeled after it. Fatherhood, sonship, obedience, and love within the home all flow from the relationship within the Godhead itself — which is exactly why Satan has always targeted the family, from Cain and Abel to his temptation of Jesus in the wilderness. We close with a few classic models people have used to picture the Trinity, and four essentials from Wayne Grudem to keep straight as you keep wrestling with this beautiful, mysterious doctrine.
