Some recommended titles on the Book of Nehemiah:

Ezra & Nehemiah by Edwin Yamauchi in The Expositor’s Bible Commentary Series, vol. 4. This commentary has some wonderful historical and background information.

Be Determined: Standing Firm in the Face of Opposition by Warren Wiersbe. Another great addition in the Wiersbe tradition. Very practical commentary on a very applicable book.

Victorious Christian Service: Studies in the Book of Nehemiah by Alan Redpath. This book has some wonderful rich applications. Redpath focusses on the deeper Christian life and it comes through in this commentary.

Hand Me Another Brick: Principles of Effective Leadership: How to Motivate Yourself and Others by Charles R, Swindoll. Some wonderful expositions along with wonderful illustrations.

Ezra & Nehemiah by H.G.M. Williamson in Word Biblical Commentary, vol.16. If you want to be up-to-date on the scholarly issues in the book of Nehemiah, then this is the book for you.

The Message of Nehemiah by Raymond Brown in The Bible Speaks Today Commentary Series. This is my favorite commentary. Awesome background information, awesome illustrations, awesome applications. Two thumbs up!

Some recommended titles on the Book of Romans:

Douglas Moo, The Epistle to the Romans, New International Commentary on the New Testament (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1996). This is an Advanced level book. Moo gives the most up-to-date research, dealing with key issues in the book of Romans. No serious student can ignore this book in preaching, teaching, and writing on Romans.

Leon Morris, The Epistle to the Romans (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1988). Morris has always been one of my favorites. Unfortunately, he does not deal with the issues raised by New Perspectives on Paul by E.P. Sanders and others. Other than that it is a great work.

William R. Newell, Romans: Verse by verse (Chicago: Moody Press, 1938). This is a great work for preachers and teachers. Ignore it to your own peril!

Alva J. McClain, Romans: the Gospel of God’s Grace (Winona Lake, Indiana: BMH Books, 1973). McClain was a great Bible teacher who was a master on the Book of Romans.

Watchman Nee, The Normal Christian Life (Wheaton: Tyndale, 1957). This is a classic that brings out the truths of Romans 5-8. One of my favorite books!

Karl P. Donfried, ed., The Romans Debate (Peabody: Massachusetts, Hendrickson, 1991). Are you thirsty for some advanced issues on Romans? Here it is.

“So Great Salvation” by Charles C. Ryrie- explains what the Bible has to say about salvation, discussing man’s hopeless state before meeting Jesus, God’s grace in saving us, and our call to obedience as we walk with Him.

“How to Be Born Again” by Billy Graham-In this modern-day classic for the new Christian and for believers seeking to lead others to Christ, this is a foundational guide from the world’s greatest evangelist.

“Getting the Gospel Right” by C. Gordon Olsen- Provides a centrist between Arminian and Calvinist theologies. Examines the relevant biblical, historical, and theological issues and how this view is more faithful to scripture.

“You Must Be Born Again” by John R. Rice-Proves from the Bible to every anxious and honest inquirer how to get this wonderful salvation, how to keep it, and how to know it.

“In Their Own Words” by Tom Eliff- As believers, the most important thing we can share with the world is the testimony of our remarkable experience with God’s grace.

“40 Fascinating Conversion Stories” by Samuel Fisk- focuses upon the real circumstances and decisions that resulted in a changed heart.

“More Fascinating Conversion Stories” by Samuel Fisk- more stories that focus upon the real circumstances and decisions that resulted in a changed heart.

“Seasons of a Marriage” by H. Norman Wright- helps couples navigate the different seasons and stages of marriage.

“Staying Close” by Dennis & Barbara Rainey- a wonderful resource for couples who want to have a vibrant marriage.

“For Men Only” by Shaunti Feldhahn- Men, have you ever wondered if you would ever understand you wife? Here is a book that is a wonderful resource to begin the process.

“Solomon on Sex” by Joseph C. Dillow- a wonderful book explaining the Song of Solomon.

“How to Speak your Spouse’s Language” by H. Norman Wright- how to effectively communicate with your spouse.

“Strike the Original Match” by Charles Swindoll- wisdom for couples that want to strengthen their marriage.

Some recommended titles on MONEY MANAGEMENT:

The market is littered with books on financial matters from both Christian and secular perspectives. I am not completely sold out to any financial guru or plan. I think some have proven themselves over time to be capable of giving sound advice. I have only chosen to list books that give overarching principles on how to view money. In making decisions on specific matters, each person should research the matter carefully from different sources and then make a prayerful decision. Please keep checking this list as I add more titles.

“The New Master Your Money” by Ron Blue. This author has proven himself over time to give sound advice and has been helpful for us.

“Generous Living: Finding Contentment through Giving” by Ron Blue. This is a great book that frees you to find fulfillment in giving.

“The Grace of Giving” by Stephen Olford. A good small book packed with biblical principles on stewardship.

“Money, Possessions, and Eternity” by Randy Alcorn. A great book by an author who has researched the subject very well from a biblical perspective.

“Managing God’s Money” by Randy Alcorn. Again, a great book on how we view money.

“Rich Dad Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki. This is a secular book. It has some neat principles on wealth but it has to be bathed through a biblical perspective.

“Revival Praying” by Leonard Ravenhill- A challenge to all who are deeply concerned about a full-scale spiritual awakening in America

“Prayer: Asking & Receiving”  by John R. Rice-Opens the Bible to help believers better understand prayer

“Let Us Pray” by Watchman Nee- Lays down the basic rudiments of effective prayer

“The Prayer Ministry of the Church” by Watchman Nee-Touches on the various aspects of this ministry of the church

“With Christ in the School of Prayer” by Andrew Murray-The holy calling of the church to intercessory prayer

“Partners in Prayer” by John Maxwell-Unleash the power of prayer for yourself, one another & the church

“The Hidden Life of Prayer” by David McIntyre-Encourages and instructs the believer in the rich subject of prayer

“If Ye Shall Ask” by Oswald Chambers-Wise counsel on the whole outlook of communion and intercession

Some recommended titles on APOLOGETICS:

“Five Views on Apologetics” – Steven B. Cowan, gen. ed., Stanley N. Gundry, series ed. Ever wonder why different apologists seem to be defending the faith differently. This book is a tough read but it is the best. Just in case you are wondering, I am a classical apologist with reformed epistemology leanings.

“When Skeptics Ask” / “When Critics Ask” – Norman Geisler answers common questions about the Bible and Christianity.

“Know What You Believe” / “Know Why You Believe” – Paul E. Little. Very good, well laid out books, recommended even for the unbeliever or new believer.

“More Than a Carpenter” – Josh McDowell. Short book for intellectuals looking for the truth.

“A Case for Christ” – Lee Strobel. Medium-length book for those questioning the validity of Christ, and those who want to know the proof for Jesus.

“Baker Encyclopedia of Christian Apologetics” – Norman Geisler. An extremely thorough book with articles about subjects ranging from Darwin to the salvation of the lost to miracles.

“Creation: Facts of Life” – Gary Parker. Very easy to understand book about the evidence for creation vs. evolution.

“One Blood – The Biblical Answer to Racism” – Ken Ham. Excellent book on how all the races came about.

“Icons of Evolution” – Jonathan Wells. Addresses all the evidence that evolutionists use as “proof” of evolution.

ANY book by Henry Morris will be well-balanced and clear.
