Nehemiah Rose After Three Days — That’s Not a Coincidence

Nehemiah arrives in Jerusalem and rests for three days. Then he arose in the night with a few men and told no one what he was doing. Dr. Abidan Shah slows down right there — because the specific details in this passage are not accidental. Three days. He arose. A few men. He did not show himself to the whole city. The needle of biblical typology is running through the text, and if you’ve read the Gospels, you know exactly where it’s pointing.

In this episode, Dr. Shah makes the case that Nehemiah understood the plan of salvation far better than most modern scholars give him credit for — and that the opposition he immediately faced from Sanballat the Horonite is not just a historical conflict over walls and trade routes. It’s a spiritual conflict with a name built into it: Sanballat means “the moon god Sin has given life.” Nehemiah means “the Lord comforts.” The names set up the entire battle before a single stone is moved. Dr. Shah also explains who the Samaritans actually were, how the Assyrian policy of recolonization created Sanballat’s people, and what all of it means for the opposition you’re facing right now.
